Appears in Bayreuth Festival and is engaged by the Hamburg Opera. This engagement is continued over 30 years
1963
Performs the War Requiem by Benjamin Britten in Albert Hall, London, conducted by the composer. Britten recommends him for the American premiere of the work, which takes place in Tanglewood, and subsequent performances in Boston, New York, Minneapolis and Seattle

Extensive recital tour on the U.S.A. and Canada. Debut at La Scala in Milan, Italy

Metropolitan Opera debut in Mozart’s Le Nozze de Figaro.

Performs the title role in Don Giovanni under Herbert Von Karajan at the Salzburg Festival. This leads to repeat Salzburg performances in opera, concert and recital in the subsequent 30 years

Debut at Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires as Conte Almaviva wt Gundula Janowitz, Teresa Berganza, and Reri Grist. First American performance of the Shostakovich XIII Symphony and recording with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy.

Samuel Barber composes the Cantata The Lovers for Baritone, Chorus and Orchestra for Tom Krause and the work is premiered with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy
1972
Opens the Metropolitan Opera season in Carmen with Marilyn Horne, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. The recording earns prizes and critical acclaim. Chicago Lyric Opera debut in Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart. Films and records Stravinski’s Oedipus Rex with the Boston Symphony conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
1973
Concert at Carnegie Hall, New York, Prince Igor (Concertant). Performs at the reopening of the Paris Opera under Solti and Strehler. This leads to regular appearances over the next 9 years, Remaining a leading artist at the Paris Opera and Opera Bastille until 2001.
1976
Performs the role of Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro in a new production for the Vienna State Opera under Herbert Von Karajan. Repeats his performance of the role in the commercial recording

Performs in a new production of Carmen at the Edinburgh Festival with Berganza and Domingo under Abbado.
